4 Tips for Being the Hostess with the Mostest

"Plan meals that are very hands-off where you can walk away and spend time with your guests without stressing about the food.

Welcome them with a warm greeting.

Traveling is exhausting. So, when your guest arrives, nothing feels better than a big hug, a beverage and to plop down on the couch. I always like having a few treats available, too. So, grab their bags and kick-off their visit with a little R&R.

Set them up with the essentials.

Have towels, a wash rag, toiletries and perhaps a few little mementos to make your guest feel welcome, but also prevent them from having to ask for every little thing. (Not that it is bothersome, but some people always apologize for having to ask for things, so this removes that whole situation!)

Give them their space.

I like to refer to myself as an extroverted introvert. I do like to interact and engage with people, but even more so, I like being home, in my comfy clothes with a cup of tea and a Julia Roberts movie. When you have guests, I know it is easy to feel like you should entertain them 24/7, but remember how you feel when you are the guest. Personally, I appreciate some down time so be sure to get a feel for your guests to see if that may be their personality as well.

Stop and smell the roses.

Although it is tempting to plan extravagant meals and itineraries without a moment to spare, don’t forget to relax and enjoy the company. Plan meals that are very hands-off where you can walk away and spend time with your guests without stressing about the food. I am thinking crock-pot, soups, stews, cold cuts, salads and charcuterie.
